In March 2024, Ashley Elizabeth Lamm and Chelsea Jean Lamm were awarded the prestigious ITS Artwork Award powered by Swatch Art Peace Hotel for their collaborative artwork “Vanishing Voices.”
Following the award, the artwork entered the collection of ITS Arcademy ~ Museum of Art in Fashion in Trieste, Italy, where it remains on display within the institution’s archive of emerging creative voices.
Created as an analogue paper collage from recycled books and magazines, Vanishing Voices explores the fragile relationship between humanity, biodiversity and the disappearing ecosystems of our planet.
The artwork depicts endangered flora and fauna, transforming environmental concern into a visual celebration of nature’s complexity, beauty and resilience.
Rather than focusing solely on loss, the piece approaches climate change through a lens of awareness and possibility. It invites viewers to reconnect with the natural world and recognize the individual stories carried by every living species.
The artwork reveals a hidden layer on its reverse side: a surface covered with the names of endangered species written in traditional calligraphy. This symbolic gesture creates a parallel between threatened wildlife and endangered forms of human craftsmanship. As traditional calligraphy practices face decline, the work highlights the importance of preserving both ecological diversity and cultural knowledge.
Through material transformation, recycled resources and meticulous handcraft, Vanishing Voices embodies Chelsea Jean Lamm and Ashley Elizabeth Lamm’s shared artistic philosophy: that forgotten materials, disappearing traditions and endangered species all carry voices worth protecting.

Inspired by medieval bestiaries, speculative futures and the symbolic language of mythical creatures, Echoes of Eden imagines an alternative world where the boundaries between human, animal and machine become fluid. Through sculptural silhouettes, futuristic details and handcrafted couture techniques, the collection questions conventional ideas of identity, evolution and what it means to exist within an interconnected ecosystem.
Rather than presenting technology as separate from nature, the collection explores a post-human vision in which innovation and biodiversity coexist. The garments become embodiments of transformation, part armour, part organism, part imagined species, allowing the wearer to inhabit a sense of strength, curiosity and possibility.
The collection reflects Chelsea Jean Lamm’s ongoing artistic philosophy of Visual Optimism as Resistance, proposing imaginative futures as a way to engage with contemporary challenges.

In July 2023, Chelsea Jean Lamm participated in the Fashion x Craft 2023 program as a finalist, attending a three-week creative residency at Highgrove House in England, organised by Fashion Council Germany, the Swarovski Foundation and The King’s Foundation.
The residency brought together emerging fashion designers and master craftspeople, exploring the dialogue between traditional craftsmanship, contemporary design and responsible innovation.
During the programme, Chelsea engaged in workshops with renowned makers including basketry artist Annemarie O’Sullivan, furniture artist David Gates and traditional plasterer Esme Walker.
The experience deeply influenced Chelsea Jean Lamm’s ongoing exploration of material transformation, craftsmanship as cultural preservation and the relationship between nature, heritage and future-oriented design.

In July 2023, Chelsea Jean Lamm participated in the Fashion x Craft 2023 program as a finalist, attending a three-week creative residency at Highgrove House in England, organised by Fashion Council Germany, the Swarovski Foundation and The King’s Foundation.

AMALGAMARE marks the beginning of Chelsea Jean Lamm's artistic practice and the foundation of the interdisciplinary collaboration with visual artist Ashley Elizabeth Lamm that continues to define their work today.
Developed during Chelsea's final year at AMD Akademie Mode und Design Munich, the collection was conceived during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. Shortly before global lockdowns were introduced, Chelsea's South African grandmother, Elizabeth Anne, became critically ill. Leaving Munich, Chelsea travelled to Johannesburg to say goodbye before returning to Germany to complete her graduation collection.
What began as an exploration of medieval bestiaries and speculative future beings gradually transformed into something deeply personal.
Working together, Chelsea and Ashley began experimenting with ways of translating Ashley's analogue paper collages into sculptural garments. Through months of experimentation, they developed techniques that combined traditional craftsmanship with contemporary technologies, including laser cutting, allowing intricate paper compositions to evolve into three-dimensional wearable sculptures.
As grief entered their lives following the passing of their grandmother, the collection shifted almost instinctively.
Unable to change reality, the sisters channelled the only thing they could still shape: their creativity.
Rather than allowing loss to define the work, they created a world that celebrated life itself.
The imagined inhabitants of AMALGAMARE became futuristic beings existing somewhere between human, animal and machine. Inspired by the mythical creatures of medieval manuscripts yet envisioned through the lens of emerging technologies, these figures embodied resilience, imagination and transformation. The garments function not simply as clothing, but as protective forms of wearable armour, allowing the wearer to inhabit an alternative future where vulnerability becomes strength and imagination becomes survival.
Many of the qualities that would later become synonymous with Chelsea Jean Lamm's practice first emerged within this collection: vibrant colour, sculptural silhouettes, analogue collage translated into couture, environmental symbolism and an unwavering belief in imagination as a transformative force.
In retrospect, AMALGAMARE became the first expression of what Chelsea now describes as Visual Optimism as Resistance: the conscious decision to respond to uncertainty not with despair, but by creating worlds filled with possibility.
The campaign was photographed in Clifton, Cape Town, a place that held profound significance for their grandmother, who spent much of her youth and adult life there.
Returning to this landscape became both a celebration of memory and a quiet act of gratitude.
The collection stands as a tribute to the woman who taught Chelsea and Ashley to observe the world with curiosity, humour and wonder.

Also presented within the exhibition was "If Hippos Were Holy", a floor-length silk satin cape created in collaboration with Chelsea Jean Lamm. Featuring one of Ashley Elizabeth Lamm's analogue collages digitally translated onto silk, the work represents the sisters' first exploration of bringing fine art into the realm of wearable form.
This collaboration became the conceptual foundation of their ongoing interdisciplinary practice, establishing the dialogue between contemporary collage, craftsmanship and avant-garde couture that would later define their shared artistic language.
Viewed today, "If Hippos Were Holy" represents the first step in an evolving body of work that continues to dissolve the boundaries between contemporary fine art, wearable sculpture and fashion.
