ETERNAL SOAR ~ Inspiration
‘Eternal Soar’ ~ GO!2025 Borderless project supported by ITS Arcademy, Museum of Art in Fashion (Trieste) and Regione Friuli-Venezia Giulia:
Growing up with diverse nationalities, borders were an everyday reality, yet family and unity transcended geographical lines, making borders seem trivial compared to the unity and joy they fostered:
"After our grandmother Elizabeth Shields passed away in 2021,
a handwritten poem of hers deeply touched us:
“When I die - please don’t cry. My little girls are big now. We can’t tell - ‘When, Where and How’ - all we have is family. There’s no telling when we leave.
When you see a butterfly, who knows - could be me “flying by”, or the rustle in the trees, could be me upon my knees.
Somewhere, somehow, we’ll meet again. Be happy, remember me, we are always family. All you have is here and now. I say farewell, my job is done. Be happy and content for one, and grateful for the times we’ve spent. When you hug your family - press harder - that one’s for me.”
Especially the second verse, suggesting a timeless connection through symbolic entities like butterflies and the whispers in the trees, has provided comfort and hope. Since her departure, birds, enigmatic messengers, have visited our family - each visit evoking memories of her poem. It’s a notion we cherish, believing it’s her presence, morphing into birds or butterflies. This ethereal connection is borderless, radiating hope and love, a reassuring force that fuels our dreams.
To us, borderless motifs exist in emotions - trust, confidence, and empathy - alongside imaginations, dreams, and nature’s wonders like butterflies and birds. They embody freedom, the essence of life’s personal purpose and aspirations.
In crafting “Eternal Soar,” we delved into these concepts, seeking common threads and distinctions. The design inspiration emerges from butterfly wings mirrored in fish scales, pincushion flowers, proteas, and bird feathers—a delicate interplay converging into a symmetrical silhouette, embodying freedom and individual purpose." ~ Chelsea and Ashley, 2024
